How Postpartum Depression Helped Me Find My “Why” in Life

How Postpartum Depression Helped Me Find My “Why” in Life
At Remember When Photography LLC we take pride and joy into serving our clients at every level possible from snacks, meals, drinks, toys to entertainment for your children, to clothing for the entire family to wear for your session. We also provide an assistant to help keep everyone happy and positioned well. We know that family portraits from newborn to extended family sessions can be very stressful and not something that is enjoyable by the entire family. The children just want to play, Dad just wants to go home, and Mom is the one keeping the family together to get the perfect photo to cherish because she knows the importance of it all. She knows that this moment in time with her young children or adult children will not last long and they will grow and things will change from this moment on. This feeling of moments fleeting is the one of many reasons why we do what we do at Remember When Photography LLC. We do not just produce a beautiful Family Portrait, we give our clients an experience and the emotion of love and personality of their family that they will be able to cherish for years.
At Remember When Photography you will meet a few people to help you through you session. We have 2 assistants Tiffany and Jennifer that specialize in working with children to help with safety and ease of your session. You will also meet your photographer Amanda Truman who’s vision this business is built from.
Amanda has been photographing portraits for several years and became more interested in 2010. However even though she loved the art of photography she did not find her why in this craft until 2012 and more so in 2016 when she suffered from postpartum depression but did not admit it to herself and others. Before this time she knew she loved the art of photography and especially portraits of families and children, but it never truly hit her on why she loved it so much until her daughter was born in 2016. During this time she had her newborn daughter and her 2 almost 3 year old son. When her son was born in 2012, it was such an amazing time becoming a mother and caring for her newborn son. Of course there were difficult moments just like any other new mother with learning to balance life with a newborn. When the time came that she was pregnant with her daughter she was just as excited to meet and care for her little one once again.

On July 19th 2016 she gave birth to her daughter and it was just as wonderful as her first child initially. As time went on and breast feeding just like with her son was very difficult as her body was not responding as it should. This time Amanda was determined to make it work through all the exhaustion until it came to a point where life was at all time low. She then supplemented with formula which was the most difficult decision and feeling of failure to herself and her child again. From this point on it was a downward spiral for her with her connection with her daughter and the beginning of her postpartum depression began to take a hold of her. She felt disconnected from her daughter unlike the feeling she had with her son when he was a newborn. She did not have that nurturing and caring feeling that she once had. She felt like she was the worst mother for not having the feelings for her daughter that she with her son just a 3 short years ago.

During that time she continued to go through the motions of love and care for her children . She continued with getting newborn photos and all the milestone and family photos as she did with her son. She knew that even without that feeling of connection, deep down she loved her daughter and family during this emotionally and disconnected time in her life.

Amanda hid the feelings she had from the majority of her family because how do you describe feelings of disconnected and not emotionally attached to your child without feeling like a horrible parent. Finally after several months of tears, shame, and guilt she decided it was time to talk to her doctor which she should have done in the beginning. This changed everything. She finally felt the love, care and connection with her daughter that she never had before. She finally realized she was not a terrible mother she was just taken over by depression that robbed those special moments that she should have enjoyed with her daughter as a newborn instead of feeling numb and disconnected every minute of it even through the difficult times.

Luckily for Amanda she did not completly lose those moments to the depression. Even though she did not feel connected and caring at the moment she knew she loved her daughter and was able to relive and remeber the loving moments of that time of her daughters life with the images that she had done. Without those images all that time would have been remembered with regret and shame of not finding the help to enjoy the moments that she could do at that time because of her depression. When she looks at those images of her and her daughter she does not think of how her depression robbed her , however she is taken back to that moment of holding her and the feeling of kissing her soft skin and finds enjoyment in that moment that she did not have at that time . With doing this she is able to in a sense relive and cherish those moments in a completly new light. This brings her hope to the years to come and how far she has come to this moment in time. Instead of feeling regret and shame these portraits of her daughter bring her love and hope that she did not feel before. When she realized this power of these portraits she knew that there are any other mothers that feel the same way and suffer from postpartum depression and find it difficult to enjoy their newborn and life. From that point on it has been Amanda’s reason for providing portraits to families to give them what she has found in her own images for them to find joy even in the hard times of life. She wants every family to know that there is hope joy and love even in the hard times of life and a photo can capture that to find in the future.

How to Prep for a Photo Session with Your Pet

How to Prep for a Photo Session with Your Pet

For many people, pets are furry members of the family. It comes as no surprise that they want to include their pets in their photos. Including your pets in your photo session does require a little extra preparation but it is certainly doable.

Below are a few tips to prepare you for your photo session with your pet.

To make this work, you will need to get your pet to sit still and behave. Pets can get very excited when new people are around so let your pet become acquainted with your photographer beforehand. Bring treats and toys that your pet enjoys so that you have something to use to grab their attention if necessary.

Keep a leash or harness ready, just in case. Even though your pet might be well trained, it never hurts to be prepared. You may also want to arrange your poses so you can hold onto your pet securely without it looking like you are hanging on for dear life. Your photographer will help you with this.

If you know that your photo session is going to take some time, give your pets the chance to take breaks, walk around and drink water. You won’t be able to force a pet to sit still if they are thirsty or agitated.

As a pet owner you probably know how perceptive your animals are to energy and emotions, so it’s important that you are relaxed when you get to your pet photo session. If you really want to keep your pets relaxed too, try and arrange your photo session in a place where your pet will feel most comfortable such as your garden or a park.

For the best results, try and work with a photographer that has previously worked with animals. This will help make the process of photographing your pets even more enjoyable.

Photography tips and tricks to help you look your best.

From school yearbooks to friends’ weddings, we’ve all been in front of camera at some point or another and if you’ve recently looked at a photo with disdain then this post’s for you. If you know that you’re going to have a lens pointed in your direction in the near future, below are six simple ways to get better results.

Get to Know Your Face. This applies to professional photoshoots as well as every day photos. Take time getting to know your face, how to smile naturally and which side or angle of your face you like better.

Easy on the makeup. While an evening out is a different story when it comes to makeup, if you’re having headshots, family or maternity photos taken, go easy on the makeup. You want some basic coverage but don’t overdo it. You should also only stick to accentuating one part of your face so choose either your eyes or lips but not both.

Facing the camera. Your photographer will help you when it comes to posing for photos but in general you shouldn’t be facing the camera head on. Positioning your body at an angle always makes for better photos.

Controlling your chin. Photos where your neck is elongated and your chin is pushed slightly forward will lift your face and give it a more angular look. You might want to practice this beforehand in order to get used to it.

Pick your outfit carefully. Put some thought into what you’ll wear to your shoot. Pair bold designs and patterns with solid colors to avoid too much distraction. You should also pay attention to the fit and shape of your outfit. Make sure it compliments you and that you feel comfortable.

Use lighting to your advantage. This is something that your professional photographer will be an expert at but the right lighting can mean the difference between that wow factor and disappointment. Avoid standing directly under a light as this will create weird shadows on your face. This is something we will help you out with because we are experts so take our advice when we suggest a specific time for photos. If shooting outdoors, the best light will be 15-20 minues before & after sunset. Unless it’s an overcast day, we will always try to get you in full shade so that the lighting isn’t dappled or causing weird shadows on your face.

As much as the above tips will help you during your professional photoshoot, always remember to have fun and relax as this will do wonders for your photos.

Bringing a baby into the world is a wonderful life event that should be captured. It’s a time you are going to want to remember and share with your little one once they are a bit older. If you are thinking about or have recently booked a maternity photo session then the below tips should come in handy as your prepare for your session.

1. Schedule your session between 31 and 36 weeks as your tummy should have popped and have a beautiful shape. By booking your maternity session during this time you are also past the discomfort and bloating that happens earlier in the pregnancy.

2. We know how important it is to moisturize those knees, elbows and belly but we recommend you do so 1 – 2 hours before the session to avoid any shininess or sticky clothes. You should also avoid wearing any tight fitting watches or bracelets that might leave marks on your skin.

3. Treat yourself to a neutral or light colored manicure 1 – 2 days prior to your maternity session so that you can take some beautiful shots with your hands on your tummy.

4. If you already have some cute baby items such as shoes, hats, toys, blankets or onesies, bring them along as they make for adorable props. The same applies to family heirlooms. If you have a special locket or photo that you would like to use, bring it along too.

5. More and more moms are using their ultrasound photos in their photo sessions. If you aren’t too sure whether you want to use it or not, bring it to the shoot anyway and decide on the day.

6. Take the time to pick the right outfit for the maternity shoot. You should of course be comfortable but make sure that your clothing doesn’t detract from your tummy’s shape and your natural glow. Avoid large, bold patterns or clothing that is too loose. Empire waists, drawstrings, flowing tops and wrap dresses are perfect for enhancing your shape.

How to get clearer photos using your I-Phone

How to get clearer photos using your I-Phone
Maternity photography – Newborn photographer – family photographer – newborn photography – baby photos – family photos – Lima, Ohio – Van Wert, Ohio – Delphos Ohio

The biggest mistakes I see people make when it comes to taking pics with their I-Phones is just a matter of sloppy handling. Are your pictures fuzzy? Foggy or Hazy? How do you fix that?
1. When shooting, hold your camera as still as you can. Especially in low light conditions. Your camera is designed to slow its shutter speed in low-light scenarios which means you gotta hold REALLY still to get a clean shot. So practice bracing your elbows to your sides while hold the camera up. Or, find a solid surface that works almost as good as a tripod. This will support the camera and hold it still much better.
2. Speaking of low light, the best way to get a clear shot is to light your subject properly. Backlight is horrible for today’s I-Phones. The phones just can’t handle it. Place your subject closer to a window, or shoot outside in full shade. Just getting good light on the subject alone, will help the camera itself perform better.
3. It may seem silly, but WIPE YOUR LENS! LOL. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve offered to help someone get a family shot on some travel adventure, and I look at the back of their phone at the actual lens. It’s filthy! A simple trick, but an effective one, and one we don’t think about all the time- simply wiping off your lens will make your pics clearer. After all, we store that thing in our purses, and God knows what kid-size drama made it into my bag this week! ((eye roll))
HAPPY SHOOTING!

Tips for Gorgeous Outdoor Photos

Tips for	Gorgeous Outdoor	Photos

Being outdoors in the summer sun is a great setting for some fun photos of you and your loved ones. In order to get the best results from your session, there are a few things to consider before you step in front of your photographer’s lens.

1. Wear sunscreen. If you are going to be out in the sun for a long period of time, especially with children, sunscreen is a must. It can however also make your skin look quite shiny. If possible apply makeup that has built-in sunscreen otherwise apply some powered concealer to spots that look especially oily.

2. Bring along some tissues & concealer powder. Unless it’s a cool day, you’re probably going to sweat. Bring along some tissues for dabbing off the sweat and your concealer powder for touch ups.

3. There might be bugs. Photos in the woods can be romantic and beautiful but depending on the time of day and the area you’re in, it could mean swatting away flies and mosquitos. A little bug repellent can make your photo session a lot more pleasant

4. Stay hydrated. Posing for pictures may not seem like hard work but in the hot sun, you don’t have to move around much to be affected by the heat. Make sure you bring lots of water and other hydrating beverages, and drink up often.

5. Apply makeup sparingly. You want that fresh, sun kissed look in your photos so don’t overdo your makeup application.

6. What you wear matters. Choose clothing that is comfortable and fits your body shape. Feel free to incorporate accessories such as a hat but don’t let it overwhelm the photo.

7. Choose your time of day. Since midday can be scorching, plan your shoot early in the morning or just before the sun sets to avoid looking hot and flustered in your photos.
